Bliss of a Bite (Sculpture, 3 pieces)

Sculpture Work, made of cardboard, clay, plaster, paint, and newspaper.

This was the first sculpture that I created, and coincidentally fits the consistent "food" theme that I have going on within most of my pieces. The idea of the piece was blissful ignorance, as seen with the newspaper between every layer of the insides of the cake. Every bite of the sweet cake reveals a little bit of the truth of the world, covered with layers of sugarcoated words. The cup writes: "Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires", making a direct statement to the simple ignorance of current events going on with every sip. The thick heavy cream coats over the sprouting words of the newspaper, but it's impossible to cover the bursting flow of flavorful words from newspapers and outlets.
