Behind the Scenes (18 x 24)

Pencil, 18 x 24 in.

My first portfolio piece, Behind the Scenes, features two of my beautiful friends. This photo came from one that I had taken on my friend's camera, and it became a piece to express the dissociation between present reality and the outside world. While many people, especially teenagers, are sucked into their own life and friends, they are often ignorant of the global issues present around them. The lack of the photographer (me) emphasizes the "disassociation" feeling- physically I am there with my friends, but mentally I am reaching out toward the global issues represented in my blog and artwork. In this piece, it focuses on the stereotype of "women in the kitchen" and how it has sucked up a large portion of a woman's identity. On the left is a detailed shot on the hand to display the intricate lines within the hand, napkin, and sink towle.
